In Corfu the Olive Tree has been cultivated for centuries, first as a
source of trading - olives and olive oil- secondly as a wood used for carpentry
and handmade crafts.
The wood working craft is one of the oldest professions dating back in
history to the time of Jesus, who was a carpenter as a boy and it is said that
he preferred Olive Wood from the Holy Land. Olive Wood is one of the most
beautiful and long lasting of woods in the world and the variety of grain makes
each piece unique.
The woodhouse has been operating for eight years and is one of the few
workshops on the island which still uses the traditional methods of
turning.
We only use local olive wood from the annually trimming of the trees, or trees that have fallen down.No tree is damaged in the process.
We make a variety of household and kitchenware which are all handmade by one craftsman, making each piece more personal and unique to our
customers.
